The Organized Art Teacher: Vol 2. Rainbow Art Supply Labels

To continue my little series on organizing the Art Room, I am going to address art supplies in this post. I have to be honest with you, as I stated in my last post about organizing in the art room I have a big problem~ I am a STACKER. I love to stack papers on top of papers on top of papers on top….. you get it! So I have been on the search for a perfect storage unit to store all my painted papers, plus all the scraps of painted paper. Luckily, I went to an auction and purchased these terrific storage cabinets for my art room.

The largest one is on wheels and is double sided. I am going to use the top as a supply table for students to get the needed supplies for projects – especially paper.

I keep all my painted paper scraps for other projects that require smaller details. Those papers are now stored in smaller bins of the same color with color labels affixed to the front. I found the perfect cabinet for those bins. I also purchased some inexpensive plastic label holders at Target, printed off my color labels and slid them right into place. The holders are nice as I can change out the labels if I need too.

On top of the smaller cabinet I have bins separated by grade levels. I am using these for books, lesson plans, visuals, etc. I have them turned backwards as to not lose materials. The weight of the books and the ledge of the cabinet will keep them snug as a bug.

I added some fun shelf paper to cheer up the cabinet and let everyone know, “Hey, we love color in this classroom!” Plus, the extra containers are holding other art supply items such as rulers, scissors, etc.

I made these labels to easily find my supplies, eliminate the stress of being disorganized and to add colorful, cheerful images.

The Rainbow Art Supply Label Pack contains

~48 Art Supply Labels~
glue, rulers, erasers, scissors, pencil sharpeners, pencils, buttons, oil pastels, markers, templates, colored pencils, color sticks, chalk, stapler, tape, glue sticks, magnetic clips, fabric scraps, paper clips, sharpies, hole punches, binder clips, irons, clipboards, sequins, paint brushes large, medium and small, pens, paint palettes, crayons, fabric crayons, pins, watercolors, yarn, clay tools.

New Labels added: Tempera Paint: quarts, Tempera Paint: Gallons. felt. craft items, glitter, glaze, containers, lids, envelopes, baskets, tissue paper warm, tissue paper: cool, office supplies, fiber art, feathers, craft sticks, paper plates, and modeling clay

These labels are approximately 3 x 3 inches.

~14 Rainbow Color Labels~
Red, Orange, Yellow, Tan, Brown, Gray, Black, White, Green, Blue Purple, Pink, Hot Pink, Turquoise.
These labels are approximately 3 x 3 inches.

~Grade Level Labels~
Labels for Pre K- 8, which are helpful when organizing stored artwork or your scheduled week.
These labels are approximately 3 x 3 inches.

~Painted Paper Labels~
If you love creating painted paper but hate organizing the paper sheets, I created 6 basic Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple labels in sizes of 3 x 3 inches and horizontal labels that are 1 3/8 by 7 3/8 inches in size.

~Large Rainbow Circle Borders Labels~
White background with rainbow circle borders and numbers inside of them. These are perfect for table numbers, classroom numbers, etc.
These labels are approximately 4 x 4 inches.

Suggestion for Printing:
Print on white card stock and laminate or purchase plastic sleeves to slide color copy labels into.

They are available in my shop HERE

I also created some colorful labels for tables. My younger artists seem to get confused on what table they sit at. These laminated colorful easels with paint cans and my painted paper backgrounds will hopefully direct them to the right table. Also available in the shop HERE

    Hi Laura!
Just discovered your website a few weeks ago and I love it! So many great ideas. I am the Head Art Docent at my sons’ elementary school. The art supply organization drives me nuts! Since we have multiple art docents using the supplies in any week (for our 32 classes), markers, oil pastels, chalks, etc. are always put back into the cabinet all mixed up. Any suggestions for keeping the individual packs organized and complete. I have toyed with the idea of separating out individual colors for each instead of having them in the individual packages. Any ideas are welcome! I hope this makes sense!

Hi Jill! Great question! I keep newer oil pastels and chalks in their original boxes until the start showing major wear and tear, then I group colors together. Used oil pastels with no wrappers go into the green containers I through in various shades of greens. Blues in the blue containers, pinks and reds in the Red containers and so on. So I have 2 different sets. Newer ones- all various colors- with wrappers still in their boxes and used ones in old containers.

    Hello,
I am alway on the lookout for colorful containers on the cheap. Do you have a source that you would share for your rainbow bins and containers, please? Thanks so much! Love your website, it is so inspiring!
    Thanks! Katherine
