One of my favorite things to do is layer art materials. Remember using modeling clay in science class? Why not mix it up in the art room by creating fun postcards with the clay, and adding color by painting in-between the clay.

I love the idea of modeling clay and acrylics. I’m going to try this with my fist grade class with a space theme/topic. Could you go into some more detail about the process? Did you have the students make sketches first? Did they first paint and then add the modeling clay? Any tips would be appreciated. 🙂 Thank you so much!!

We just looked at different landscapes online then the students jumped in and started to create. Some students decided to use tempera paint in between the clay spaces, others just left some areas blank, while some students used only modeling clay and filled in the entire cardboard. A Space theme would be AWESOME! 🙂
So modeling clay never hardens right? It stays the same? I inherited boxes and boxes of modeling clay in my art room.
Hi Linda you are correct. The modeling clay does not harden, but it does pop off the paper if not speared onto the board.
